Well, today was interesting. Brent had blood drawn at four different labs. After too-many-to-count vials of blood later (and they wonder why he is anemic), we may actually get some answers as to why he has had to have 17 units of blood since January. He is scheduled for three more units tomorrow. We spent most of the day in SLC at the hematologists office, and getting blood tests at various places.
This is what we know. Not much. Hopefully that will change in a couple of days. The tests that the Dr. ordered will confirm or deny the diagnosis that he suspects. He thinks that Brent has Auto-immune Hemolytic Anemia. All of the tests thus far and the symptoms lead to that. Google it. It's too complicated to explain. If this turns out to be the actual diagnosis, it is, thankfully, treatable. The treatment is hell, however, as it requires very large doses of prednisone, and a chemo drug. Yippee. It isn't an instant cure, and will take awhile, but hopefully it will work.
So, we prayed for answers, and hopefully with the tests being run, we will have some. Thanks for your concern and prayers.
