Yesterday we met with Dr. Caine for a six week check up. Brent was cleared to drive and cleared to start to go back to work. He’s been doing pretty well since his last thorocentesis on Thursday. The chest X-ray yesterday didn’t show any new accumulation of fluid around the lungs, thankfully. His heart rate has stayed stable also since replacing his Hickman central line on Friday. Personally, and in my semi-professional medical opinion, I believe they are all related. I believe the fluid keeps moving the line out of place, thus causing the heart rate to go crazy. The line is placed right next to the heart, and any movement can cause irregular heart rates. 🤷🏻♀️ I don’t have a medical degree, just an honorary surgical degree awarded to me by Dr. Price (our GI surgeon.) Now that the fluid has been drained, and the line once again fixed, things are looking up.
We often use the words cautiously optimistic to describe any amount of positive news because we’ve just been burned so many times.
Brent will have another chest X-ray next week to check on the fluid. Here’s praying that it stays normal.
He had an echocardiogram today to check to see if there is any vegetation on the new valve. We see the Infectious Disease doc on Thursday. Also praying for that to be normal so he can discontinue the IV antibiotics and have a desire to actually eat.
We are thankful for good days. To be honest, we are just thankful for more days.
