Well, we've had a few stressful days. On Monday, Brent's JP drain (the smaller of the two drains) somehow was pulled partially out. Needless to say we freaked out just a bit. After a phone call to the surgeon, we were told to tape it in place as best we could, and then see the surgeon on Tuesday. Michelle, the ever so talented nursing student knew how to tape it in place, as she had already learned that. :)
So, Tuesday we ventured up to Murray, and the surgeon wasn't sure if they should just pull it the rest of the way out or if they needed to reinsert another one. He finally found someone who could do the test he wanted, but they were booked until midnight . . . so on Wednesday, we went back up, and the scan showed that the large Malecott drain was only leaking a very small amount. They said that they could not insert another drain into that small of a pocket. Sooooo, they pulled the remainder of the drain out. Now Brent is one drain less, but now we have to watch for signs of another abscess forming, because the drain is not there anymore to pick up whatever the Malecott leaks out.
So, that's the excitement around here. Never a dull moment. The girls both head back to their respective schools this weekend. :( It has been very good to have them home for a month.
Other than the drain excitement, everything else is healing very well. The midline incision with the fistula, and on a wound vac, is healing very quickly. The hope is that the fistula will close off as the wound continues to close up. The small incision is pretty much healed up. We still have no idea what happens next. No clue if we will be heading down to UCLA or not. Can't even think about it. Too overwhelming.
Love ya
