Well, there's not a whole lot going on. We just got home from wound care at UVRMC. That is Brent's only outing, every other day. They change the dressing on the wound vac, which is on the midline incision with the fistula. The incision is healing really nicely. Not much left to close up. Not sure what happens with the fistula when it heals to that point. It's quite ironic to me that we are so excited that things are healing . . . only to have to go back in in about 6 weeks. Crazy.

Brent's days are spent mostly in bed, or out on the couch. Not much to do. He's a bit stir crazy. We spend the day emptying drains, doing dressing changes on the small incision and the drains, making sure he has enough pebbled ice to chew on, but not swallow, and trying to think of ways to spend the time. Movies, games on the ipad, music . . . that's about it. The kids are usually highly entertaining, or frustrating, depending on the day.

If you would like to visit, please call or text beforehand. He is often asleep. If you have any signs of illness, no matter how small, we ask that you just stay home and email or text him. He has no immune system, and catching ANYTHING could be very detrimental to the healing process. Thanks. (trying not to be mean, but protective at the same time. That's my job, I think.)

Have a great New Year. Thanks for your continued support, encouragement, strength, love and prayers.

  1. Hooray for pebbled ice! (But the chew, don't swallow gets old.) So glad Brent is bored at home instead of bored at the hospital!!!
