So sorry for not updating.

There’s not a lot to update. Brent is still in the hospital. Usually no news means good news. However, this time it just means I didn’t feel like writing anything. Brent’s blood cultures keep coming back positive which is baffling since he’s been on the IV antibiotics for almost a week now. He has not had any fevers which is good. Normally we could just go home with the antibiotics. Unfortunately this bug is prone to attach to things like his artificial heart valve and his central line. The line is gone, so that’s one less thing to worry about. Tomorrow Brent will have a TEE (Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is a test that produces pictures of your heart. TEE uses high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to make detailed pictures of your heart and the arteries that lead to and from it.).

This is done by going down through the esophagus and looking at the heart from the inside. It gives them a clearer picture of the valve. This will rule out endocarditis on the heart valve.

Hopefully they will feel better about sending him home if that proves negative.

If you’re still hanging in there with us, pray for negative cultures tomorrow and a negative TEE result. Thanks ever so much. We love you.
